IT'S A GIRL!!

We had a blast at our Pink or Blue party!!  We are thrilled that Baby Nash is a girl!!  It's so exciting to be able to say she/her and call her Bray!  Here are more photos of the party!

We had a WONDERFUL time, and we were completely overwhelmed with the love and support of our friends and family.  Now the FUN really begins!!

18 Weeks

Ok, this is a quick post about Baby Nash's weekly progress.  I think I'm finally looking more pregnant than fat, at least in some clothes!  I've gone back and forth all week, but today's outfit showed off the "bump" in all it's glory! (Please excuse the "I've been at school all day" no make up face)

The best thing to happen this week happened Tuesday night.  I felt the "thump" again and I felt pretty sure it's really a kick after all.  So, I poked my belly and the baby kicked me back!  It was our first interaction and so cute!  I really have a baby in there! 

Here's what happening at Week 18:

We have a little sweet potato!!

At 18 weeks pregnant, your baby is hitting the height chart at five and a half inches long (remember, that's crown to rump) and weighs about five ounces (Baby Nash is a little big - at our 17 week ultrasound, he/she was 6 ounces!). (the weight of that boneless chicken breast you're making for dinner).

And now for the skill of the week (drum roll please…): The art of the yawn has been mastered by your baby (someone's sleepy!). In fact, you might catch a glimpse of that adorable yawn if you're getting an ultrasound this month. You'll also catch a glimpse of all the fetal movement your baby's doing — twists, rolls, kicks, and punches. And would you believe your baby is finally big enough for you to start feeling those movements now (or anytime in the next few weeks). So get ready!

Something you won't see on the ultrasound, but you'll know is in working order, is your baby's nervous system, which is maturing rapidly at this time. Nerves, now covered with a substance called myelin (which speeds messages from nerve cell to nerve cell), are forming more complex connections. And those in the brain are further specializing into the ones that serve the senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing. Talking about hearing, your baby's is growing more acute, making your little one more conscious of sounds that come from inside your body (which means you could both be listening to each other hiccup — a skill that your baby has by now).

Next post will be about the Pink or Blue Party!!  I'm so excited my family is coming down and can't wait to find out!

U/S take 2 - and the Clemson/AU Game!

So we went Thursday to Baby's First Images (awesome place by the way), and I'm happy to report the u/s tech was able to get a clear shot of the gender!  She said she was 95% sure - I'll certainly take that!  We are anxiously awaiting the reveal Saturday - it's so hard to wait!  Here are a couple of pictures we were able to have now, since they don't reveal anything!


The little knees are right below the stomach and his/her hands are right by the mouth.  So sweet!

Saturday we packed up and headed to Auburn with Megan and Peyton.  We had such a good time, despite the heat and the result of the game.  Okay, everyone but ME had a blast.  It was awesome to hear so many AU fans scared in the beginning, but it was so heartbreaking to lose on such a little thing.  It really was a tight game.  Just wait until next year in Death Valley!!  I took a few pictures, but somehow forgot to get one of Judd and I.  I think we may have to stage one! :)

As for Baby Nash (next week I get to say Jackson or Bray!!  woohoo!!), he/she is officially a little onion!

I am definitely feeling some "flutters," and I think I felt the first kick.  The flutters feel litterally like that - a butterfly fluttering inside.  The day I thought it was a kick, it felt like someone gently thumped me.  I've felt it a couple more times, but not consistantly enough to believe it for sure yet!

Here's what What to Expect.com says about Week 17:
How big is your baby at 17 weeks pregnant? About five inches long and more than three and a half ounces (Baby Nash is 6 oz!!, so a little big for week 17!) — the size of your open hand. (Open the other one too and imagine your baby cradled in both your arms right after delivery!) Body fat (baby's, that is) is beginning to form and will continue to accumulate through the end of your pregnancy. By the time your baby is born, body fat will make up about two-thirds of his or her weight (and will make all those chubby parts especially yummy).


Your baby is almost certainly listening up by now. In fact, loud noises — the dog barking, the doorbell ringing — will actually startle your baby (and also get him or her used to such noises; for instance, fetuses who regularly hear a dog barking will become babies who sleep right through Fido's outbursts). Your baby's eyes (which have fortunately finished their migration to the front of his or her head) are making small side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed. And since practice makes perfect, your baby is sharpening his or her sucking and swallowing skills in preparation for that first (and second…and third) suckle at your breast or bottle. In fact, most of the survival reflexes that your baby will have at birth are being perfected in utero right now.

And here's some proof that your baby is truly one of a kind (as if you needed any!). Within the next week or so, the pads on your baby's fingertips and toes will become adorned with completely individual swirls and creases (aka fingerprints).

Ultrasound Update - Take 1!

Today we had the ultrasound to check my cervical length.  I'm happy to report it's "long and closed," which is what it should be!  They told me I'd have several more u/s's to check, just to be safe.

Baby Nash was certainly putting on a show!  He/she was kicking and flipping and moving all over the place!  No wonder it was hard to find the hearbeat last week!  The hearbeat measured 151 bpm and baby is 6 ounces now!  We tried to see if she could get a peek at the goods so we wouldn't have to go tomorrow night for our elective ultrasound.  He/she was moving around so much the umbilical cord was in between the legs - so no guess!  (And just so you know, we were going to have her write it on a piece of paper and put in an envelope!)

Crazy Busy and WOW, 16 weeks!

We've been so busy, between going to the Train concert and then the lake for Labor Day, I never had time to update for 15 weeks.  Oh well, it was pretty much like week 14!

Yesterday I went in for my 16 week check up.  The midwife got out the doppler to hear the heartbeat.  It had been a while, so I was so excited!  She kept moving the doppler around and pressing down, and I began to worry.  She even mentioned we may need to go have ultrasound, so I was thinking the worst.  Finally, we heard the faint sound and it moved.  The little booger was moving all over the place and wouldn't stay still!!  Seriously, that's just like Judd!  Lord, help me!  The heartrate registered at 145 bpm, so now I don't know what to think...girl or boy??

The midwife also told me that due to a procedure I had done a few years ago, I was at a higher risk for preterm labor.  I will have to go back next week for an ultrasound to check my cervix, and I will go every four weeks the rest of my pregnancy.  If my cervix were to start shortening, we're looking at possible bed rest.  Of course, it's all precautionary now and I'm hoping for the best!  At least I get to see the baby every month!

We scheduled the gender scan for next Thursday night.  PLEASE start praying right now that I can be strong and have the u/s tech write down the sex!  My mom and mother in law are already saying I won't be able to do it.  I am going to be strong!!

Here's what's happening with Baby Nash this week, so exciting!

Listen up: Tiny bones in your fetus's ears are in place this week, making it likely that the baby can hear your voice when you're speaking (or singing in the shower)at 16 weeks pregnant. In fact, studies have found that babies who are sung to while they're in the womb recognize the same tune when it's sung to them after they are born (so choose your baby Muzak with that in mind…).

And baby's busily boning up in other ways. For one, the backbone (along with the back muscles) is stronger now — strong enough, in fact, to enable your baby to work on straightening his or her head and neck even more. Baby's crown-to-rump measurement is between four and five inches in length, and weight is hovering around three ounces.
This little one's a looker — with a face that has both eyebrows and eyelashes — but a skinny looker since there's no baby fat yet. And here's the skinny on baby skin: It's practically translucent now, so if you took a peek inside your uterus, you'd be able to see your baby's blood vessels under that thin skin.
